Aaron Jooris, Director of Operations

Ms. Aaron brings warmth, joy, and care to the Dawncrest community. With years of professional experience, she manages the many details that help keep the school running smoothly while also creating meaningful connections with students, families, and staff. Known for her positive energy and welcoming nature, Ms. Aaron is often the person who helps bring people together and ensures that everyone feels supported. Her attention to detail and genuine care for the community make her an invaluable part of the Dawncrest team. Outside of school, you'll find Ms. Aaron with her two kids, feeding her curiosity about health and wellness and finding joy in unhurried mornings with a coffee in hand.

Emily Albrecht, Kindergarten

Ms. Albrecht is passionate about creating a warm and welcoming Kindergarten classroom where young learners can grow, explore, and develop a love of learning. She enjoys designing creative, inquiry-based experiences that capture students’ curiosity and make learning exciting and meaningful. Ms. Albrecht believes that every child brings unique interests and ideas to the classroom and is excited to build strong relationships with her students and their families. Outside of school, she enjoys spending time in nature, playing softball, reading, and working on creative projects such as crocheting and sewing.

David Baldry, Music

Mr. Baldry is a music educator and performer with a passion for sharing the joy of music with students. A graduate of the University of Toronto’s Music Performance Program, he has performed across North America, including on stage with a variety of artists, in musical theatre productions, and at the Toronto Blue Jays’ Canada Day opening ceremony at Rogers Centre. A skilled trumpet player with a background in piano, Mr. Baldry brings a wide range of musical experiences to the classroom. He has spent the past eight years teaching with the Hamilton Music Collective and loves inspiring students to explore music, develop their skills, and continue learning.

Jimmy Ilunga, Physical Education

Mr. Ilunga is passionate about helping others grow and become the best version of themselves. In Physical Education, he believes in creating a positive and supportive environment where students feel encouraged to take risks, build confidence, develop healthy habits, and discover the joy of movement. He brings energy, enthusiasm, and a commitment to supporting students both on and off the court. Outside of school, Mr. Ilunga enjoys staying active, reading, and the occasional good donut—a reminder that balance matters.

Liam Herrmann, Grade One

Mr. Herrmann is an experienced educator with an extensive teaching background internationally, where he taught students of all ages. His heart is in the primary years, where he loves nurturing a lifelong love of learning and guiding students as they begin their educational journey. Mr. Herrmann creates a warm, positive, and engaging classroom where students feel encouraged to learn and grow. His energy and adaptability ensure lessons are both meaningful and fun. Holding a Bachelor of History from McMaster University, Mr. Herrmann enjoys storytelling and exploring cultures from around the world. Outside the classroom, he loves biking, reading, and spending time with his dog.

Lauren Chalmers, Grade Two

Ms. Chalmers brings a passion for early learning and a belief that strong relationships are the foundation of student success. She earned her Bachelor of Education from the University of Prince Edward Island and her Honours Bachelor of Arts with Distinction from the University of Waterloo, and most recently taught in Prince Edward Island. Ms. Chalmers is excited to create a classroom where students feel known, supported, and encouraged to explore their curiosity through creative, fun, inquiry-based learning. Outside of the classroom, she enjoys drawing and other creative pursuits.

Eleanor Holmes, Grade Three/Four

Ellie Holmes is an experienced educator from the UK who now calls Canada home and loves exploring its beautiful wildlife. After teaching for over 10 years in the UK with a specialization in mathematics, she is passionate about learning alongside children and building strong, collaborative relationships with families. Ellie believes every child learns best when they feel supported, encouraged, and valued. Outside the classroom, she enjoys baking with her children and creating special family memories together.

Ritu Kumar, Community Service & Outreach Lead, Grade Five/Six

Ms. Kumar brings 18 years of experience as an elementary educator, including over a decade teaching internationally in Dubai before making Burlington home. She believes that each child has a little bit of magic in them and brings a unique perspective to the classroom. Creating a classroom community where students feel valued, supported, and inspired to grow is at the heart of her teaching. Ms. Kumar is passionate about community service and believes that understanding and contributing to the community is an important part of learning. She is excited to lead Dawncrest’s Community Service & Outreach program. Outside of the classroom, Ms. Kumar enjoys spending time with her family, travelling, and capturing adventures through photography.

Sheila Hayward, Grade Seven/Eight

Mrs. Hayward brings 16 years of experience in education. With a background in Special Education and English Language Learners, she is passionate about making learning accessible and meaningful for all students. She holds a Bachelor of Science Honours degree and a Master of Science in Elementary Education, and believes that every student can thrive when provided with the right support and opportunities. Outside of the classroom, Mrs. Hayward enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, camping, fishing, exploring new coffee places, and always having a good book on the go.
