Jamie DeBruin

Kathryn Grovum
Head of SchoolKathryn Grovum brings passion, dedication, and thoughtful leadership. A trusted leader within the community, she guides the school forward with vision, care, and a commitment to excellence

Assistant Head of School, Curriculum & Gr 1 TeacherJillian brings her expertise to Dawncrest as Acting Curriculum Director and Grade 1 teacher, supporting excellence across curriculum and classroom learning.

Emily Albrecht – Kindergarten
Emily Albrecht is the Kindergarten teacher at Dawncrest. She is passionate about creating a warm, welcoming classroom where young learners can grow, explore, and develop a love of learning through play and inquiry. Emily thoughtfully designs creative, engaging programs that capture each child’s attention and make learning both meaningful and exciting. Outside of the classroom, she enjoys spending time in nature, playing softball, reading, and working on creative projects such as crocheting and sewing. Emily is dedicated to building strong connections with her students and their families and creating a joyful, memorable early learning experience.
Jesica Bennett – Grade 2 & 3
Jesica Bennett is an Ontario Certified Teacher entering her third year at Dawncrest. She graduated with Honours from the University of Guelph and completed her Bachelor of Education at Trent University. Jesica is committed to creating a classroom environment where students feel energized, inspired, and supported. She believes learning should be dynamic, interactive, and engaging. Whether exploring new academic concepts or incorporating movement-based brain breaks, she fosters an atmosphere where students feel confident and excited to participate. As a certified yoga instructor and meditation guide, Jesica integrates mindfulness and movement into her teaching practice, helping students remain grounded, focused, and self-aware throughout the school year.
Ritu Kumar – Grade 5 & 6
Ritu Kumar serves as the Grade 5/6 Homeroom Teacher at Dawncrest. She brings nearly two decades of experience in classroom teaching, curriculum design, leadership, and program development, with experience in private school settings both in Canada and internationally. Holding a Professional Master of Education in Assessment and Evaluation, Ritu is a dedicated lifelong educator committed to academic excellence while supporting the individual needs of each learner. She is known for her attention to detail, collaborative approach, and commitment to continuous growth. Ritu creates a structured yet dynamic classroom environment where students feel challenged, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential.
Sheila Holmes – Grade 7 & 8
Sheila Holmes began her career as an Educational Assistant, supporting students in special education settings before transitioning into teaching. Her experience working with students with exceptionalities and English Language Learners shaped her inclusive, student-centered philosophy. With an Honours Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Elementary Education, Sheila is passionate about ensuring every child has access to meaningful and engaging learning opportunities. She believes in differentiated instruction, scaffolding, hands-on exploration, and removing barriers so all students feel seen, valued, and capable of success.
Compassionate, flexible, and intellectually curious, Sheila builds strong relationships with her students and adapts her teaching to meet their individual needs. Outside of school, she enjoys spending time with her family and exploring the outdoors through hiking, camping, and visits to Newfoundland.
